I can't sew...there I said it...I can't. I haven't done anything related to sewing my own clothing because I can't even make a pillow have straight seams :( I used to "sew" with my step mom which consisted of me cutting thread and the one time I tried to cut a pattern for a dress she was making me I cut it wrong and it turned out so badly I never wore it. But I WANT to make my own clothes, or at least be able to fix a hem in a dress. I have this amazing 80s shirt-waist dress that I found locally and I would love to wear it but its very long, almost to my feet but I want it to be just below the knee...well its been sitting in my closet for almost 2 years and I haven't been able to wear it because I can't fix the hem. I even got a cute little "beginner" sewing machine as a wedding gift and I've never even turned it on. I'm scared to death of messing up my lovely dress but I don't know where else to start. I did buy some scrap fabric at an antique store the other day but I wouldn't want to start with that either because of the age. I see so many beautiful rockabilly style dresses on etsy and I want to have some of my own SO bad! Any suggestions for a good "beginner" fabric or pattern?

Treasure Hunt Anyone?

Yesterday was a pretty dull day, I waited around all day to go to my grandma's house but it turns out thats not until today :S oh well. But I did manage a treasure hunt trip in the morning. I looked around my favorite shop for about and hour and a half with only a couple things I didn't feel too strongly about but retraced my steps back to where I started my search and found 2 adorable dresses. 1 with my "thing" for right now, dresses with fur trim. And a cherry red full skirt dress with velvet and lace detailing around the waist...oh and as I was waiting in line this adorable leopard print hat jumped out at me so I took that too. All together, not too bad for a saturday @ 10 am. They'll be listed on Tuesday around 7pm pacific time (like usual).

New Years Dress?

Now that the holiday is over its time to start thinking about the new year. And what better way then to start thinking about the dress you'll be wearing? I'm a big fan of statement pieces, one dress/jacket/sweater/pair of shoes that will WOW everyone around you and make them wish they were wearing it. Here are my picks for "Statement Party Dresses" for Ringing in the New Year!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Savings..

Hoping you're having a vintage filled Christmas. Whether its bringing out your great grandmothers nativity set or wearing a beaded holiday sweater or (hopefully) you got some beautiful vintage pieces or gave some as gifts.
I have a jantzen holiday sweater I wear every year on Christmas that I found locally at a second hand store. Its got red, green and gray stripes and has a gold rectangular zipper pull. Here is it in my christmas card picture from last year. Its so cute, I just love it.

Well I want to offer one last sale for the end of the year and I want to thank my Facebook Fans specifically for the support they've offered me this year. My sales are up and my finds have been amazing! So I'm offering my 59 facebook fans 59% off of any item in my etsy store from today until January 3rd. Just convo me with the item you want and I'll hold it for you and adjust the price. The only item excluded from the sale is the 50s wedding dress. So that gives you 59 items you could save 59% on.

Here is hoping your 2009 was great and your 2010 is even better! CHEERS xxoo Bombshell Bettie

i was reading this cute little blog post today about a funny little book about not being wasteful (from the 50s) and it gave the idea that instead of trowing out your old coffee you could put it into ice trays and freeze it for iced coffee on hot days..well since we won't be having those any time soon I thought it would also be a great way to cool down your coffee (if you're a baby about hot drinks like my hubby) without adding more creamer or milk diluting the coffee goodness...or you could use it to spice up another drink without overpowering it with coffee flavor, like eggnog! Anyways...just a thought I had.

The 12 Days of Deals

Going from Dec 14-25th in my Etsy store I'm having 1 randomly selected item 50% off for 24 hours at a time. So far we've had the red pea coat the hot pink peingnoir the avant garde navy cape, the brown and white cardigan and 80s crinoline sundress at 50% off! Still 7 days left of deals so don't get discouraged if you missed out on the first few days. Such great deals, the 50% off puts most items at around $2o or LESS! Thats a great deal for quality vintage and NO ITEM WILL BE DISCLUDED FROM THE SALE but keep in mind they're all random so even I don't know which piece will be up for sale on any given day. Check my FB Fan Page for the post or go directly to my Etsy Store and it will be in the featured listings section.

Ebay listings are all about suits this week. Sorry, no pics until tomorrow. ;) Gotta get you to come back some-how now don't I?

oops i almost forgot about the blog...

well i know its been quite a while since I posted anything. I just don't know what to say. I could talk about my newest vintage pieces, sales and listings. I could talk about vintage fashion. How-to style vintage fashions with modern ones. Which vintage pieces i'd love to have...oh geez, I could say so much...but I don't really have much to say. I've been reading more vintage blogs, most of them already cover these points. So how about saying something different...but what?hmmm i'll have to think about it...

oh and incase you were wondering I got a rating of 3.2 last time I looked at the zombie pin-up contest..not good. It pretty much discouraged any thoughts or dreams I had of pin-up modeling. oh well....we can't all do what we want.

Business has been good with ebay and etsy. 9 items sold on etsy...lots of ebay sales...but its the holidays now so ebay sales are slowed. No one wants to buy vintage for christmas.

I've wanted to be a pin-up model since I first discovered pin-up. I quickly grew obsessive with Bettie Page (cult pin-up legend) Dying my hair dark and giving myself bettie bangs. I was told I looked like her (YAY!!!!!)So that made my passion for modeling grow and grow. Right after highschool one of my girlfriends and I modeled for each-other for fun. I loved it. We grew apart after lying to one of my other friends and blah blah you know how that goes. So I've been out of the lens for a while....and I've let myself go with age, boredom and a sedentary job. I'm trying to take more pictures...nothing really below the waist (unless I have to) and facebook has helped me re-gain some of that lost confidence. I've discovered this adorable web site MyZombiePinUp.com. <3 it! And right now they're having a contest to win a spot in their next calendar. I know I won't win...cuz I'm much too heavy to be picked....but just the thought that I COULD win makes me feel giddy. I keep going back and forth because of my overweightness whether or not I want to enter...but my friend convinced me to do it....Here's hoping... :) I'll post again when i've sent in my entry...it probably won't even be considered for the contest...LOL

New Listings, New Logos!

I sold my first item on Etsy this week! That was so exciting! I also made a new pic for a link to my etsy listings from ebay. Its not too fancy but I like it. Very excited for the new listings this week. Some of my fav's going up. My model finally showed after 4 weeks...LOL she was adorable though, big step out of the box for her, she only wears black so putting her in a bright blue sun dress wasn't exactly her idea of fun...LOL. She smiled through it though, she said "I'm a dancer so its good practice" the smiling that is. Here is the new listings on ebay and here are the new ones on Etsy, I've decided to make Etsy my top-shelf vintage boutique.

Treasure Hunt...

OOh I llove the "halloween" season because stores putout all their best vintage for costumes...can't beat it..hehehe. Here's what I found this week...super cute! 80s 4 inch leather pumps, 70's mary jane's. Disco dress and waht I call the "owl" top because I think the embroidery looks like owl's eyes..so cute!

And the listings go on...

I'm packed full of inventory! Dresses hanging all over the place because the closet is full! I need to sell and sell fast so I can make more room! I've started my Etsy account now, and that's fun. well what can I say...

I'm coo-coo for new inventory..! I found a gorgeous cherry raw silk shift dress and a sheer slouchy bed jacket today. So pretty!

The end of a wonderful weekend..

Well I had a great long-weekend. My husband was off all weekend (YAY) and He went with me everywhere I wanted to go. As you know I went Treasure Hunting early this week (Thursday) so that freed up my weekend a bit. On Saturday after my photo shoot my hubs and I went out with some of his friends to dinner and stayed about an hour past the restaurant closed..they had to kick us out. But I think it was the first time any of us had been out in a while. We're all growing up, getting new jobs and houses and planning families..its an interesting transition. I spent most of the day sunday doing listings, updating the facebook page and I spent a great deal of time at my mom's house messing with her computer. This is however the second week my new model didn't show for pics so I may have to find someone else. If you know of anyone who is an XS or a S let me know will ya ;) Monday was crazy day, lots of walking! Got up extra early to go the that FAB labor day sale this morning. I only take public transportation..which was on holiday schedule today so my hubs and I had to walk to the sale which is about an hour walk. Got there a few minutes after they opened and a red-headed girl was in the section I like to look for clothes in..I saw her grabbing a bunch of vintage clothes and I wasn't too pleased when she pretended like she didn't know what I was there for (cuz we were there for the same reason, inventory) but I did get a bit of satisfaction finding the amazing blue dress in the previous post hidden amongst the jackets. SCORE! She saw it in my cart too and she gave me a nasty look :P on her! She took all the other pieces. I was lucky to find what I did. Like Margaret advised me, those sales are NUTZ. Within about 10 minutes of my being there all the carts were gone. Luckily I grabbed one when I did, and when I left I made sure to give it to someone instead of just leaving it in an isle somewhere. Lets see, then after that my hubs and I walked about 6 blocks up to a restaurant and had some breakfast and waited for the first bus to take us back home. Since I got home I've been doing lots more listings, pictures and blog posts for you. 3x's the normal amount of listings this week! HERE they are for you. Hope you enjoyed your weekend too!

Respect the vintage...or make more money..

I wondered for a long time where other sellers were finding all these mini dresses..I could hardly ever find any. Most of them were knee length (which is flattering on everyone) so I was so annoyed that there werent more mini dresses around here....then it dawned on me..why is EVERYTHING that seller is selling a mini? OMG they're doing it themselves...I'm a firm believer of "respect(ing) the vintage" I'm going to sell it as-is to you and if you want to make it into a mini...go ahead, its your dress you're the one who will be wearing it. But I also noticed that mini sell for a lot more money! So do I go by my budget or do I go by how I feel...I mean...she doesn't think that we'll believe she FOUND this drop waist pleated skirt like this...does she?

This week's treasure hunt was a DREAM! I could not have asked for more amazing and unique pieces! And I'm giving YOU the first look. First up is the simplest piece. M/L "Be a Square" Indie dress in red & cream.

V bust, amazing color...hearts on the bust and sleeves...sooooo awesome! i'm in <3! onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Y7SPP3zRJiU/SqCd9MugXpI/AAAAAAAAANw/OjXedPT1kLw/s1600-h/100_1061.JPG">

And last is my fav of the finds this week. A hot pink and red striped chiffon party dress. And its NOT an XS!! I'm SOOOO excited to start these listings!
