The Girl Can't Help It...

Ok guilty pleasure, I love "The Girl Can't Help It" with Jayne Mansfield. She is a blond bombshell with curves for days. I watched it 3 times last week. I was going to do a whole feature on all her outfits in the movie but I didn't realize how many outfits there were so I decided to concentrate on one outfit and re-create it several times. Here is my (second) favorite outfit from the movie. The sheer white shirt with sash belt and cigarette pants, pictured above.

Extra long scarf with colors that match the pants and the rosebuds in the shirt, really ties this all together; from KissesFromAna I like the mod feel of the pants with the delicate details of the blouse.

This one might be my favorite. I think its the closest to the set in the movie. The striping on the shirt (from GrandmasCedarChest) is perfect. The sunny yellow of the pants from MyVintageCocktail matched with the polka dot sash belt from OhTwoVintage..ooh I just love it!

Clash of Nostalgia

Although it was a few years before my time as a kiddo I remember watching Clash of the Titans (1981) many, many times. I remember the part with Medusa the most because she was sooo scary! And the part where Andromeda is chained to the rock at the end, oh so suspenseful. With all the hype of the new movie I was feeling a tad nostalgic so I decided to see if netflix had it for me to stream..and they did! (YAY netflix). So I watched it today. I didn't remember the male lead being so attractive...or the female lead so young looking...what was she 15?



But all that goddess-ware got me inspired to do a featurette on "goddess" fashion. This movie is obviously very 70s draped in style so I tried to stay away from the 70s/80s and do more of the 40s/50s..because its just classier. ;) So here they are..goddess-worthy dresses for your viewing pleasure.Ok, this is one of the 70s dresses I just couldn't pass up. 40s, Take My Breath Away

I've never really thought about 40s fashion until I got netflix. I've been so obsessed with the 50s full skirts and cocktail dresses that I overlooked some of the most stunning gowns and day dresses I've ever seen. Watching Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire in The Gay Divorcee and Shall We Dance I fell in love with her gowns and night gowns.
Since then I've watched as many 40s movies as I can get my hands on. Mesmerized by the shape of the bodies and the glamor..I had no idea the late 30s and early 40s were so glamorous! But I really love the every day dresses. So tailored and elegant. Suits were so sophisticated (thank you Lauren Bacall!) Everything just seemed to be so..so..sexy. And I know when I thought of 40s dresses I didn't think sexy...I thought dowdy..or frumpy. Shame shame shame on me! Proving me wrong time and time again here are just a few of the AMAZING dresses I've found on etsy.
