Big Changes!

If you haven't noticed its been very quiet around here. Well we've been making HUGE changes. If you didn't notice the new name on the banner, we've changed to reflect the new direction of the shop. Bombshell Bettie's is now Bombshells and Babes Vintage. I just feel like its time to grow up a little bit. Corbin is really the inspiration to get things going and my husband, he asked me if I was "over it" or if I wanted to make a career out of it and I really thought hard. Do I want to try to sell vintage for the next part of my life? Or do I want to get one of those "career" things where I sit in an office all day. Well been there, doing that in the office. Its really not up my alley. Its not even that I want to be my own boss. I just want to love what I do and I LOVE finding and selling vintage. I want to be an inspiration for my son, I want to be successful for him but even if I fail miserably at least I tried, right?
I'm really excited. We're getting everything together and by next year we're hoping to be a real business and then in a few years hopefully a real brick and mortar shop. Probably not in Spokane, but wherever my husband's work takes him. I mean, everyone needs an IT guy so we'll probably have a lot of options. I also purchased bombshellsandbabes.com. It currently re-directs to my etsy shop but soon we'll have a link to the blog and the shop and maybe a couple of other things. I don't think I'm going to make it into an online shop. It just seems redundant to me to sell on my site and on etsy..and eventually in a shop too seems like a lot of juggling to me.
Also I've been stocking up the shop. Last weekend I went to Oregon to visit my dad (or so he could visit with Corbin, you know how grandparents are..lol) and we went to the Highland Games, I'll post on that later. Well I did manage to stop by a couple places and pick up a good amount of inventory and while I was away it appears that my local shops were stocking up their vintage too, I've been photographing non stop since we got back..well..what Corbin will allow each day before he gets too fussy or I have to go to work. I got a lot done on Saturday and a few done yesterday but we were finishing up the fence so I didn't have too much time to get things done. I still have more woman's clothes and all the children's clothes to photograph and ties..ties ties ties ties ties. There are SO many mid century and designer ties. If i bought them all I could have my own tie shop..seriously..ties are a big deal around here.

We also gave my inventory space a makeover!
here  it is before, in the main room. The light was burnt out and there really wasn't enough space
more inventory and decor and jewelry in back.
i kept i in two places, coats and sweaters in here because there wasn't enough room
this is the other side of the room.. formerly the geek cave
..now inventory heaven! (even a place for my crinolines!)
room for everything and then some. Its been organized by color/season since these pics.

And where the inventory was, will now become the photography space with lights and everything. Its going to look like a proper grown-up shop!
So yes, busy busy bees over here. Soon the whole look of the shop will change and you'll get to see all that new inventory. None of these photos have the new inventory. Its still upstairs being photographed and needs to be measured. There are some really cool pieces in there. Several as-is pieces that will be just $10! Plus the COOLEST 60s/70s Sailor jumpsuit!
I just had to share it, I think its my favorite piece. I also have 2 Lilli Ann suits coming a 50s knit sweater and skirt set, several 50s dresses, 60s mini's and SO MUCH MORE. Seriously..there is a lot. Plus all the kid's clothes. Feeling slightly overwhelmed thinking about it but my hubs has also stepped up and is helping me too. Its so so so appreciated. He is really excited and is really pushing me to get things off the ground. We've even employeed his mom to do all my back repairs..which I am beyond stoked for. Some of them (and I hate to admit it) have been in the repair section for over 3 years.
Now the ball is rolling...eeeep! Bombshells and Babes Vintage.

One Exhausting Christmas

one exhausted kitty
As you know yesterday was christmas and my hubs had to work. Then when he got home we packed up the car with I don't even know how many presents, we really went all out this year and headed over to Idaho to spend christmas with his family. When we got there we scrambled to get all the presents under the tree before the rest of the family showed up. Once everyone got there it was crazy, tons of presents, tons of pictures, some tears and lots of laughs :) I finally got to give the new family all the gifts I had bought them (like this print, custom ornaments from this shop: cake, custom teddy bear and a custom "nana's little peanut" ornament for my MIL (the seller liked it so much she put it in her shop), these wall hangings, this amazing blanket, which they loved and these custom bibs) Seriously...all the custom things I bought were from AMAZING sellers. So if you're looking for great custom baby stuff, I would check out the shops I listed, easy to work with and really really friendly. I WILL be buying a bunting print again for the next baby in the family..I LOVE them!
Well anyway...then we had to get ready for a potluck style dinner with my sister in law's family...well we were expecting just her family...but it turned out all the neighbors were there too and I an not exactly comfortable in that kind of situation. I totally lost my appetite from the stress of having so many people around so we escaped downstairs where I got to hold my chubby little niece while she napped and then once everyone cleared out we went back upstairs for some pie..well I had a couple bites but I couldn't really eat anything because of the sleepy baby...totally worth it. Shortly after we went back to the mother in law's place where my husband napped and I watched TV..all together a pretty exhausting christmas. But we all decided next year christmas will be at our house. When we got home the hubs and I watched Christmas Vacation and both fell asleep pretty early...we were both pooped.
My outfit for christmas was cute though...I finally got to wear my Cars dress from MissFarfalla. I paired it with my brooch from RaleighVintage and my plaid flats from this post, a yellow belt (my hubs picked out) and my skin-tone fishnets. Today I think I'll hit up an after christmas sale for some tights today so I can wear my dresses more.

My hubs and I exchanged mostly nerdy gifts. Star wars related of course. I got him star wars and mario shirts as well as this SHWEET Left 4 Dead mobile from Salty and Sweet on etsy. Its soo cool. I want to get the star wars one next. My hubs got me star wars jammie pants, an R2-D2 collector plate from '87 and a cute little R2 to put on my desk at work that makes noises :) I ♡ me some Star Wars! My niece is getting so big now. I can't believe she is already over a month old. Time flies don't cha know. Here she is all packed up and ready to head home, it had been a long day for her too. She caught a cold from her daddy. Poor little thing.
I hope you all had a great holiday.
I almost forgot to mention I'm having a 35% off sale today until midnight so get your after xmas deals while you still can ;)

Wahhhhhhhh-haaahaa

I reserved this dress from fabgabs expecting a ton of sales from my new inventory...so far I've sold a whopping 1 item. A pair of 70s platforms.
I bought almost exclusively 50s and early 60s items to try to increase sales and it looks like people only want 70s..wha-te-fuh? I've been looking at other sellers prices and they all seem to be twice what mine are so I'm kind of confused as to why my things aren't' selling? Is everyone as super broke as I am right now?
It doesn't help that I'm also trying to pay off this dress from deargoldenvintage which is WAY overpriced...but they knew I couldn't live without it...jerks.
Looks like I'm going to have to list that dress after all...simply for the fact that I need the money because I need these other dresses (too) blarg...right now sucks.
So if you wouldn't mind, take a look in my shop. I reserve and accept payments if you're super poor like me ;)
Tomorrow is my last day on my reserve for fabgabs and I still have 2 payments on my deargolden dress. Prices in my shop are negotiable right now!
Here are some of the items in my shop right now
Tulip cocktail dress $62
Sailorette swim suit $149
Orange pumps $28
Red 50s leather pumps $48
40s nylon maxi with the most adorable puff sleeves $62
40s rayon with amazing neckline! $58
Chiffon overlay dress $64
Anchor pocket romper! $54
Butterfly print blouse $28

Face Time

No not that stupid thing from the new iPhone 4. I'm talking about face time in front of MY camera for my store. I didn't find really any dresses that fit me while I was in Seattle, people are much smaller over there but I did find this dress and one for myself as well that I am actually going to start the repair for when I finish this post...since I'm just now remembering at the same store. I didn't feel like wearing eye makeup today so I put on my vintage frames instead and tested out a new pink lipstick I got. I don't usually wear pink. I'm always wearing my signature rich red lipstick but hey, pink dress, pink lips. It just works.
Me, being a goof...LOL I really love the neckline of this dress!
YAY I found my shoes!
I always set my camera timer..and then forget I'm not wearing my shoes yet....so here is me finding the shoes right as the camera goes off..
Apparently I think I'm too cool for school.
I loved this shot (even though i've got some major rollage going on in the waist area...thats what I get for not wearing my longline bra!)
really kicking myself for not being good on my diet!
I really like the pink lipstick, its like raspberry so its got a nice red base to it.

here are my shoesies, they're the same ones I wore at my wedding. They're my very favorite shoes ever!
I've got oh-so-irritating wide feet so its practically impossible for me to find vintage shoes (especially heels) so I buy reproductions.

Glasses: Time Bomb (local shop)
Dress: My shop
Shoes: Ebay

Vacation Day Four, Meet up and more thrift

Can you tell I did a lot of thrifting? Here is the post you've (probably) been waiting for. My meet and greet with Solonah of Vixen Vintage it was a little out of the way but I don't often get over to the other side of the state and I really wanted to see her in person since she is always so fab in her pics. I thought oh, I had better dress up because whatever I'm wearing she's going to look like a billion times more fab (and she did, she's so bleeping cute) We pulled in to town and turned a corner after a skinny little thing wearing a vintage skirt, cropped jacket and tall leather boots walked across the street...I told my hubs "I bet that was her" and later I would find that yes, it was.
But she and I were a texting and she was currently on her way to have breakfast with her mommy so we thrifted more while we waited. I found a cute top and skirt set and 2 patterns (one i'll be listing) and I wish I had bought all the patterns because they were on sale for $1 a piece! Still kicking myself for that one.Rosebud skirt and top set I picked up at the Antique Mall

We went to a couple smaller thrift stores as well and were going to head back to the salvation army but then Solonah texted to say she was ready and to meet her at this little coffee shop in town. So I'm there all super nervous thinking "she's probably going to think I'm a loser and a phony and hate me in person..boo hoo hoo" i get myself worked up sometimes. And we got out of the car and her she comes all adorable walking across the street and she gives me that huge way too cute smile of hers and I feel much better. She gave me a little hug and we went inside for some coffee...well she had tea, I had a latte with a foam leaf (that would not go away!) and my hubs had a banana, orange and something else smoothie (no thanks, it was kinda yuckers with my coffee) and of course she was too quick for me and paid for my drinks as well...she is such a shitter!
So we sat down awkwardly on the little chairs and couches they had, me in my jumblelaya dress my crinnie with my favorite red cropped cardigan and my nautical brooch set. (I still think my outfit was missing a butter yellow tie)
before lipstick (I always forget until i'm in the car already)
after, in car with lipstick
my nautical brooches anchor and boat from ebay seagull from Art*Deco*Dame on etsy
My crinnie larger shot of my dress
I remember thinking "OMG SHE'S SO TINY..and YOUNG" and then I started feeling old even though I think I'm only two years older than her. I just feel so old..at 24 I feel like I should be 34 or even 44...I'm married, with a house and a mostly successful business and a "career-like" job. I'm so boring...anyway..
We sat there and made small talk and sipped our respective drinks I got lipstick all over the place on that mug... I got lipstick nearly half way around it before I was done...how I'm not quite sure...
She asked me about my hubs and said I was sweet like a billion times and told me how cute I looked (she must've known I was practically a scared kitten). I don't think I asked her anything, I'm not very good in social situations and I didn't want her to feel like its an interview I'm her friend not a reporter. She did ask me about my regular job, the one where I'm not buying pretty things and enjoying myself..and I told her what most people say about their jobs...it sucks. HA!
She suggested we hit up the big antique store down the street so we finished up our drinks (I finally got that damn foam leaf!) and we headed out to our unclean, practically lived in car and headed down to the store. It was huge, 3 stories lots of shiny cases for me to look through. I took my favorite kind of stalker like pics of Solonah walking around.
Me in "Elvis's" sun glasses
Solanah walking around looking at things
Neat little hat box..and hey there is Solanah again.
Looking at the rack where she picked up the black wool sweater, which I almost picked up..
An amazing lamp that I wanted
cute little picture
orange you glad I didn't buy this shirt...well I kinda liked it.
Here is my tea cup...which matches the set below..I found out I have a lot of sets of one.

Solanah's outfit and the black sweater she bought.
She and I posing outside the mall...she said "sorry I look drunk in your pics" I'm like..well I think I look high so we're even...HA. We're a mess. Here is Solanah's Post for better (aka more embarrassing) pics. :)
She headed out to watch TV...I mean very important things that prevented her from going to a reunion and we went out for more thrifting. I came back to town later that day and picked up things from Urban Eccentric since they didn't open until noon I had some time to kill.
I bought this adorable catalina swimsuit with smocked back
love this kelly green blouse
and this flocked circle skirt dress at a steal of a price! Everything you've seen is up in my Etsy store
